I recently returned from a painting and photography trip to San Miguel
de Allende, Mexico. On July 7th I met an artist friend of mine, Fran
Ellisor, in San Antonio and we traveled by car to Mexico. Our plan for
this trip was to stop at some interesting looking villages and small
towns that we had seen from the main highways on previous trips. We
were able to photograph many interesting sites, such as a flower market
in Matehuala, an old hacienda in La Villelia and interesting people we
saw along the highway. As always the people were friendly and we had a
delightful and safe trip.
We spent a week in San Miguel photographing the beautiful old colonial
city. We had arranged to meet several other artists there and were able
to paint on location at the church in Atotonilco, the panoramic view of
San Miguel from the hilltop as well as the wonderful view we woke up to
every morning from our hotel balcony. The climate in San Miguel is
almost perfect anytime of the year. We enjoyed weather in the 80's
every day and since we were there in their rainy season we had a brief
shower almost every afternoon, but it left us with clean streets and
clear blue skies the rest of the day. The surrounding landscape was
greener than I ever remember seeing it, and the bougainvillea and other
flowers were beautiful.
Many of the scenes we were fortunate to view will become material for
future paintings. Look for new work to be posted to my website soon.
